Biography
Paul Steinberg has designed sets and costumes for theaters and opera companies in the U.S. and abroad including The Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Paris Opera, Berlin State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, The Netherlands National Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Royal Danish Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Cologne Opera, Komische Opera Berlin, Opera Nomori Tokyo, New Israeli Opera, Lithuanian National Opera, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, American Repertory Theater, NY Theater Workshop, Goodman Theater, D.C. Shakespeare Theater, Hartford Stage, Intiman Theater.
Recent productions include Kin (Playwrights Horizons) La Finta Giardiniera (Theater an der Wien, Vienna), Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg (Welsh National Opera), Don Giovanni (NYCO), Ercole Amante (Amsterdam), L'Incoronazione di Poppea (Barcelona), Il Trovatore (Bregenz Festival), Peter Grimes (ENO) and Il Turco in Italia (Statsoper Berlin)
Productions in 2012 include Un Ballo in Maschiera, (The Met), Deidamia (Amsterdam), Falstaff (Covent Garden and La Scala), Billy Budd (ENO) and The Love For Three Oranges (Deutsche Oper Berlin).
He is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, was featured in the 2003 and 2007 Prague Quadrennial and the recipient of a grant from the British Arts Council.
