Biography

Sharon Badal is the Short Film Programmer of the Tribeca Film Festival, and has worked in various capacities for Tribeca since 1999. Her previous executive positions in motion picture distribution and marketing include those with United Artists/MGM, Warner Brothers and Orion Pictures. She served on the regional jury for the Student Academy Awards in 2005, and on the jury for the 2006 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival. She is a member of New York Women in Film and Television

She is currently writing Swimming Upstream – A Lifesaving Guide to Short Film Distribution, which will be published by Focal Press.

Her live-event producing credits include Walt Disney Feature Animation Premieres Pocahontas in Central Park, The Lion King and 101 Dalmatians at Radio City Music Hall, the Sony Global Marketing Conference (Paris, Hawaii, Los Angeles), and ThinkQuest (Geneva). She has been a Coordinator for ShowEast, Cinema Expo International (Brussels) and The Independent Feature Film Market.

She has guest lectured for North Carolina School of the Arts and American University, and has presented “Navigating the Film Festival Labyrinth” for various film programs and filmmaker organizations. Her Master’s Thesis The Big Screen: A Passionate Look at the Movie Palace was utilized in the book America Goes to the Movies – 100 Years of Moviegoing.
